1. Sketch the floor plan of your kitchen on graph paper indicating which rooms the doors or entryways lead into.
2. Start at one corner and measure all the walls of your kitchen. Jot down measurements in inches on your rough draft as you go along.
3. Measure from corner to edge of window or door opening and measure distance across the door or window from outer edge of trim to outer edge of trim.
4. Continue measuring along all walls, indicating open areas (such as walk-through to Family Room) on your rough draft.
5. Note the location of the sink, water drain, gas lines and electrical outlets.
6. Measure distance from floor to bottom of trim for all windows.
7. Measure distance from floor to ceiling. Make sure to indicate any differences in ceiling height throughout the room on your drawing.
8. Indicate which directions your door(s) swing.
9. If available, list dimensions and type of refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher and sink.
